Council Resumes Bulky Collection Service on 10 August.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council are pleased to announce that the Bulky Collection service will resume from Monday 10 August.

At this time, the Council are only able to collect bicycles, large electrical appliances (fridges/freezers/washing machines/white goods) and wooden items (wardrobes/chest of drawers/tables/chairs).

Items that we are unable to accept are sofas and armchairs, matresseses and beds, soft furninishings and carpets.

If you are in doubt, please see the full list of items currently acceptable for collection at:

www.newrymournedown.org/bulky-collection-service

The items that can be collected will be kept under review.

However, where Council currently cannot collect specific items as detailed through the Bulky Collection Service, householders can still dispose of these items at Household Recycling Centres.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Laura Devlin said: “We anticipate some early delays as the service recommences, so please do bear with us and extend your co-operation to collectors wherever possible.

“Our staff will wear PPE and will be spraying items prior to pickup to ensure staff safety.

“Householders must notify the Council prior to the scheduled collection date, should any member of their household be self-isolating.”

  • A single bulky collection should comprise up to 5 items, as before. The cost of each bulky collection is £10.50 for 1-5 items.
  • Bulk Collection days in legacy Newry are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and collection days in legacy Down are Wednesday and Thursday.
  • You are requested to place your bulky items out for collection 72 hours prior to the scheduled collection day. Wooden items of furniture should be broken down.
  • While it is not possible to specify the exact time of collection, please be advised that all items will be collected between 8am and 5pm on the agreed date.

If you would like to request a bulky collection, please contact the Waste Department Customer Service Section on 0330 137 4047, where Credit/Debit card payment will be taken and a date for collection provided.
