Sharvin well placed at 5th in Portugal Open.
Ardglass golfer Cormac Sharvin came in at 5th place in the 57th Open de Portugal at the Morgado golf complex on Sunday.
Battling his way through the Challenge Tour in 2019, Sharvin excelled himself by finishing in fifth place in Portugal winning a purse of $8378 with an impressive 10 under par score. He was only 5 shots off the lead score of 15 under.
On Saturday he was in contention being in the top four leaders and was in excellent form with the possibility of actually winning was a reality.
But the pressures of the final day pulled him back to a very credible fifth spot which will go a long way to his accreditation for the European tour into the 2020 season. Sharvin has steadily improved his performances over the last year and is his motivation is never in question.
Breakdown of Cormac’s Score in the Portugal Open.
|Day One||Day Two||Day Three||Day Four|
Sharvin was only five shots off the lead finishing with a 278. The winner was Adrian Meronk from Poland who finished with an under-15. Meronk is 439 in the world rankings whilst Sharvin is higher up the ratings at 257.
In the past year Sharvin has more recently figured strongly in the top tier with a share of the winnings. His biggest earnings came recently in the August’s Rolex Trophy with around $29,000 and the Dubia Duty Free Irish Open last July with $95,677. His total earnings in 2019 are approximately $200,000 and this is a sign that he is hungry to get on the European Tour and play in the top flight of golf.
Cormac Sharvin has progressed steadily from moving to professional status three years ago and his days spent playing at Ardglass Golf Club have put him in good stead towards a future as a professional player on tour.
