Come See The Bela Quartet At The Portico In Portaferry

Founded in 2006, the Bela Quartet are one of France’s best known string quartets. The players, all graduates of the Conservatoire de Paris, champion contemporary repertoire and perform all over the world.

At their performance in Portico, the quartet will be augmented by a fifth – the international violist and composer Garth Knox.

The quintet will perform a variety of pieces including work written especially for them by Knox and another composer from Ireland – Simon Mawhinney – as well as Purcell, Britten and Debussy.

Benjamin BRITTEN, Phantasy, Quintet (1932) for string quintet
Garth KNOX, The Weaver’s Grave (2011) for string quintet
Simon MAWHINNEY, In all the worlds (2013) for viola d’amore and string quartet
Claude DEBUSSY, String Quartet in G minor.
