Come Enjoy A Talk On Place Names Of Downpatrick and Beyond

Downpatrick Library invites you to a talk on ‘Place Names of Downpatrick and Beyond’ by Gordon McCoy on Tuesday 25 October 2016 at 6:30pm.

dn_screenGordon McCoy will look at the influence of the Irish language on local place names, as well as relating some of the problems of translating place names leading to differing interpretations and spectacular mistakes!

Gordon received a doctorate from Queen’s University Belfast for his thesis on Protestant learners of Irish in 1997. He is the Irish Language Education Officer at the Skainos Centre in East Belfast and is Secretary of the Ulster Place Name Society.
