NEWCASTLE SDLP Councillor Carmel O’Boyle expressed her delight at the successful pipe band championships that were held in Newcastle’s Donard Park today (Saturday 18th June). She said, “I am delighted that this event went off so well, due in large part to the lovely weather and the large crowds who came to Newcastle on Saturday. This was a really colourful spectacle with 42 pipe bands, including six from the South of Ireland, taking part. “The town was really buzzing and our visitors as always were warmly welcomed by the traders and local people of Newcastle. This event marks the start of what we hope will be another really successful summer season in our town and I was really pleased to hear so many enthusiastic comments about the championship from the spectators.”]]>
