The Rowallane Sinn Féin spokesperson had previously called on Council to take decisive action to regenerate the popular town centre location and has welcomed the confirmation as “long overdue signal that Ballynahinch is open for business.”

Ms Cleary said: “For years Ballynahinch town centre has had to endure the unsightly presence of a half-finished steel frame structure in the heart of the town’s market square. It has been a real eyesore, and symbolic of the challenging economic times our town centres have been struggling with in the district.

“With this in mind I have been working with my Sinn Féin Council colleagues in recent months to ensure that this particular blotch on the Ballynahinch town landscape is removed for good so that we can continue to regenerate the town centre.

“Confirmation then that the Council will dispose of the steel structure is very welcome indeed, and the regeneration of this site is now a positive step in the right direction towards sending a strong message out that Ballynahinch town centre flourishing, and open for business.”
