Clarke Welcomes Refurb Of Summer Seat In Newcastle

A Downs Road summer seat repair in Newcastle by Council staff has been welcomed by Councillor Willie Clarke

Mournes Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has thanked council workers for repairing and reinstalling a summer seat along the Downs Road promenade, following concerns from local residents after the bench was damaged and removed.

Cllr Clarke said: “I was contacted by a number of residents who were concerned when the bench was removed, as it has become an important part of their daily walking routine. For some residents, having somewhere to sit and take a break along the promenade is essential.

Cllr Willie Clarke is delighted that a bench on the Downs Road has been refurbished by Council staff.

“The original bench had unfortunately been damaged after someone drove into it. I raised the issue with council officers, and I am pleased that the seat has now been repaired and reinstalled.

“I want to thank the council workers involved for getting the bench back in place. Small pieces of infrastructure like this can make a real difference to residents, particularly older people and those who use the promenade every day.”
