Mournes Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke meets with NMD Council over Bogie Hill issues
Sinn Féin Councillorxa0Willie Clarkexa0has met with Newry Mourne and Down District Council officers to raise on-going concerns regarding the condition of the Council owned Bogie Hill in Newcastle.
As a result of these discussions, it has been agreed that the surfacing of the path and replacement of seating will be investigated as part of potential improvement works.
Councillorxa0Clarkexa0said: “Bogie Hill is a very popular access route onto King Street and is heavily used by walkers, particularly those using the Granite Trail.
“Unfortunately, many aspects of the pathway are now in need of significant attention.
“Steps have deteriorated badly and must be replaced with materials that reflect the rich quarrying heritage of this area.
“The summer seating along the route is also in a poor state and needs full replacement.
“The Granite Trail is an important community project that showcases our area’s cultural and natural history while supporting sustainable tourism.
“However, it is located in a part of Newcastle that has traditionally received very little funding, upgrading Bogie Hill would enhance the trail and improve safety and enjoyment for all users.
“Tourism, recreation, and leisure are growing sectors that could help transform Newcastle Harbour into a vibrant hub of activity.
“Our town’s outstanding natural beauty and cultural heritage make it an ideal location to attract visitors and support local businesses.
“These improvements at Bogie Hill would be a small but vital step in that direction,” added Cllr Clarke.
