Mournes Councillor Willie Clarke is concerned about rising antisocial behaviour in the Burrendale Estate in Newcastle
Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has raised serious concerns following antisocial damage at the playground in the Burrendale Estate, Newcastle, and has called on Council officials to carry out urgent repairs.
Cllr Clarke met with a Council official to discuss the damage, which includes sections of the wet pour safety surface being ripped up, leaving damaged areas that could pose a risk to children and other playground users. Glass was also found scattered within the playground.
Cllr Clarke said: “I am deeply concerned about the senseless antisocial damage that has been caused to the playground in Burrendale Estate.
“The wet pour safety surface has been ripped up, leaving damaged areas that could present a risk to children using the facility.
“The presence of broken glass is particularly concerning. These senseless acts are an attack on the community and on an important facility used by local children and families.
“Following my meeting with Council officials, I have asked that the necessary repairs and removal of any hazardous materials are carried out as quickly as possible so that the playground can be returned to safe use.
“I have also asked Council officials to carry out a play quality inspection of the playground in Burrendale to assess its current play value condition and identify any improvements.
“Our children deserve safe, well maintained play facilities, and I will continue to work with residents and Council officials to ensure the necessary action is taken.”
