Clarke Calls Of Clear Up At Newcastle Beach Access Points

Some access points at Newcastle Beach have become blocked with debris and boulders says Cllr Willie Clarke

Sinn Féin Mournes Councillor Willie Clarke has requested Newry Mourne and Down District Council to carry out cleansing and debris removal at access points to Newcastle Beach.

Speaking on the issue, Cllr Clarke said: “There has been a significant build-up of stones and debris along the beach access from the Rock Pool car park, to the beach, which appears to have accumulated over a number of months.

“This is making access increasingly difficult and hazardous, particularly for older residents, families with young children and anyone with mobility difficulties. Other access points along the shore front need to be cleansed also.

“Newcastle Beach is enjoyed by residents and visitors throughout the year, and it is vitally important that Council does everything possible to ensure that access points are safe, clean and fit for purpose.

“I have asked Council to arrange the necessary works to remove the accumulated stones and debris and ensure that the various access points onto the beach are maintained to an appropriate standard.

“We want residents and visitors to be able to enjoy Newcastle’s wonderful coastline safely and without unnecessary obstacles.”
