A Happy New Career as Chef Bootcamp at SERC Calls for Participants

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is calling for applications for a 4-week Chef Bootcamp commencing 30 January 2023 at SERC’s Downpatrick Campus.

Fully funded by the Newry Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership, the 4-week bootcamp offers an exciting and unique opportunity to gain industry relevant qualifications for those interested in stepping towards a career as a chef.

Karen McClure, Business Development Manager, SERC said: “No previous experience is necessary for this 4-week programme and participants will gain an RSPH Level 2 Food Safety & RSPH Level 2 Allergen qualifications.xa0 The Chef Bootcamp will combine hands-on practical tuition, basic food preparation and chef demonstrations at SERC and a placement for 2 days each week with a local employer.”xa0

“It is a fantastic first step and a fast track route to becoming a chef, gaining those essential basic qualifications in kitchen know-how,” added Karen McClure.xa0″It’s hoped local employers will take on those who successfully complete the bootcamp. There is no age limit for applicants.”

Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Michael Savage said: “SERC’s Chef Bootcamp is just one of the initiatives being delivered through the Newry, Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership.

“It aims to help participants secure jobs locally, while assisting our local businesses by increasing the supply of skilled individuals across the District.

“I would encourage local eligible residents to participate in this great opportunity which offers qualifications, and which can lead to securing employment in the hospitality industry.”
