Castlewellan GAC Notes For 18 June 2017

Comhghairdeas to St Patrick’s Burrenreagh and particularly our own club member Rian Walsh who recently won the Cumann na mBunscol final in a great game against St. Mary’s, Dechomet, on a scoreline of 3:09 to 2:07. Commiserations to the children of St. Mary’s writes Brian McAlinden.
Rian and St. Patrick’s have now won the competition two years in a row, which is a fantastic achievement. Rian score 1-02 in the final. Well done Rian from everyone in the club.
The U-14 girls footballers played Dundrum in the blistering heat of Sunday. The first half was dominated by a skilful and strong town side, winning by 15 points at half-time. However, second half Dundrum were the stronger side taking advantage of tired and warm legs of the town. Fortunately the home side held their resolve coming in winners at 7-12 to 4-12. Scores from: Niamh King, Cara McKee, Aislinn Fitzpatrick, Amy Rose Gilmore, Holly Aulds, Erin Louise Clarke, Sorcha McCullough and Tara Keavney.
The U-12 boys footballers had another great win away in Bredagh. 5 points down in the first they dug deep and rallied to win by 8 points. Goals from Conor McVeigh (2), Ryan McKibben (2), Tadhg Owens, Emmet Hillen & Casey Llewellyn.
Congratulations to Castlewellan & Newcastle CCE and especially to our members who competed and won County titles at the Fleadh An Dun in Warrenpoint yesterday. “Maith sibh go Leir”.
Our annual Big Breakfast will take place next Sunday (25th June) in our clubrooms from 10am to 1pm. Funds raised will go directly to support our juvenile teams. Great food guaranteed by chef Jimmy Kennedy. Everyone is welcome.
