Carryduff Shopping Site To Get £8m Investment

CAUSEWAY ASSET MANAGEMENT UNVEILS PLANS TO INVEST £8M TO REJUVENATE FORMER CARRYDUFF SHOPPING CENTRE SITE.

Leading Belfast based property investment company, Causeway Asset Management, has today announced plans to invest £8m in the highly anticipated regeneration of the 1.4 hectare former Carryduff Shopping Centre site.

The project on Church Road in Carryduff, which has now been named The Village, will include the renovation of the former SuperValu site, the addition of three prime retail units and a restaurant, the retention of two existing units and the construction of 21 apartments, car parking and extensive landscaping. Causeway Asset Management is currently in talks with a number of prospective tenants and are inviting interest.

Planning was passed for the project in November 2018. Ongoing demolition works are due to complete shortly with the build phase of the project set to commence in summer 2019, paving the way for wider regeneration in the area.

Speaking about the upcoming development Brian Kearney, director of Causeway Asset Management, said:

“For a long time now residents of Carryduff have wanted to see this site rejuvenated into a contemporary space that will attract investment and footfall, while meeting the needs of the local community.

“The scheme at The Village will combine modern retail units fit for 21^st century occupiers alongside contemporary housing to restore the site into a vibrant economic hub.”

Built in the 1980’s, the former Carryduff Shopping Centre struggled from a drop in footfall which resulted in the loss of its anchor tenant, Supervalu, in 2013.

The approved regeneration scheme will breathe new life into the Church Road site and has been widely supported by councillors in Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.

Lisburn and Castlereagh councillor Brian Hanvey said: “I am pleased to see the plans for The Village taking a step forward today. The regeneration of this site into a retail and residential destination has been supported by the community and I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact it will have as the scheme becomes a reality in the coming months.”

Lisburn and Castlereagh city Councillor Alderman Michael Henderson MBE said: “The approved plans by Causeway Asset Management for the former Carryduff Shopping Centre site will bring a new retail hub to the centre of this community again, and it is great to see that the regeneration is moving forward. There is demand in the area for a diverse retail offering.”

Lisney and Lambert Smith Hampton have been appointed joint letting agents for the upcoming retail units. Details on the release of the residential element of the scheme will be announced later this year.
