Carers Of Relatives With Dementia Get Access To Support

The South Eastern HSC Trust and the Alzheimers Society help carers navigate life with dementia

Carers who support a relative living with Dementia are being encouraged to access free information and support through a programme delivered by the South Eastern Trust and the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Carers and Information Support Programme (CrISP) is designed for people who care for a relative or loved one with Dementia and live within the South Eastern Trust area.

The South Eastern HSC Trust and the Alzheimers Society are providing support to carers who look after relatives with dementia through the CrISP programme.

The free programme provides practical information and support to help Carers understand Dementia and its symptoms while also covering topics including the impact of Dementia, legal and financial matters, future planning and providing day-to-day support and care.

The programme also provides an opportunity for Carers to meet others who understand the challenges of caring for someone with Dementia and to access information that can help them feel more confident in their caring role.

South Eastern Trust, Service Improvement Lead for Dementia, Fiona Rooney, said: “Caring for a relative with Dementia can bring many challenges and it is important that Carers have access to the right information, advice and support.

“CrISP provides a valuable opportunity for Carers to learn more about Dementia, consider practical issues such as future planning and finances and explore ways of supporting themselves and the person they care for.

“We would encourage anyone caring for a relative with Dementia in the South Eastern Trust area to find out more about the programme and access the support available.”

CrISP sessions are held at three locations and online each month:

  • Hamilton Road Hub, Bangor – first two Tuesdays of each month from 11am to 1pm
  • Atlas Women’s Centre, Lisburn – last two Wednesdays of each month from 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • Online – last two Thursdays of each month from 10.30am to 12.30pm
