Expressions of interest are being invited from creatives living and working in the Ards and North Down Borough to join the Ards and North Down Arts Network.

Ards and North Down Borough Council is seeking to build on the already thriving creative scene in the borough and joining the network will give local artists the chance to be considered for artistic activities and opportunities provided by the Council.

The Council offer a comprehensive annual programme of arts activity and opportunities for participation to include, but are not limited to, facilitation of creative workshops and classes, provision of demonstrations and professional development and networking opportunities.

Pictured at the launch of the network are Deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Craig Blaney, centre, with Emily Crawford, Arts and Heritage Manager with Ards and North Down Borough Council and Shauna McGowan Artist and Chair of Ards and North Down Borough Council’s Arts and Heritage Panel.

There will also be an opportunity to apply for participation in the annual Creative Peninsula Festival.

Speaking about the network, Deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Craig Blaney said: “We have a very high concentration of artists and makers living and working in the Ards and North Down Borough.

“The Arts Network is an excellent way to ensure the Council can effectively engage with them and provide artistic opportunities as they arise.

“I would encourage any creative living in the borough to apply and reap the benefits of the network.

Emily Crawford, Arts and Heritage Manager with Ards and North Down Borough Council said: “We are keen to build our networking and communication with the creative sector.

“We are aware that there are lots of artists and makers in the borough that we don’t currently engage with so if you are out there and you would like to potentially be involved, we would love to hear from you!

The Arts Service programmes classes, events, festivals, demonstrations and professional development sessions throughout the year and we would like to offer opportunities for artists and makers to get involved. This is the first step towards creating a stronger arts network in the borough.
