Burns Warns Of Flooding Risk In Lower Castlewellan Square

dn_screenSinn Féin Councillor Stephen Burns has said that unless the drainage problem at Lower Square Castlewellan is addressed there is a fear from local residents that there could be serious flooding. Councillor Burns said:xa0“After a recent deluge of rain local residents have complained that the gullies were not working properly. “I contacted DRD Road Service and organised an inspection and found that the drains were blocked and fortunately these were able to be unblocked. “However, I have been told that although these drains and gullies have now be added to the schedule there no money to maintain the upkeep of the drains. “The Minister must act now before another burst of heavy rain causes flooding and it is necessary to find the money to keep these drains clear.”
