Burns Makes a Plea to Danske Bank

SINN Fein Newcastle area Councillor Stephen Burns has written to Danske Bank asking them to make their recently vacated building available for community use. The former bank in the Lower Square, closed its doors for the last time earlier this week and Councillor Burns is concerned the building will sit empty and disused for years to come.dn_screen

He said: xa0″I fear that the bank become another empty shell, damaging the image of Castlewellan. Danske have made a decision to centralise their services, and the community is being forced to adapt. What we don’t need is for the building to add to the list of empty commercial properties in our town centre. “The Bank is a beautiful building, and an important attractive feature of the town. I asked Danske to consider making the building available to the community, so it can continue to serve the people of the district. “There are numerous usages that could potentially go into this large property, including Arts, Exhibitions, Tourism, Youth work, Pensioners groups, Business forum and possible the creation of a Cultural Society,” added Councillor Burns.  ]]>
