Bright GAC Notes For 6 April 2014

The men had their second league match of the year today against Aughlisnafin and due to closure of Annsborough pitch Bright challenged them at home coming away with a 2 point victory 1-12 to 0-8. Bright who dominated midfield throughout the match put the first score on the board in the opening minute with a point fro Pearce McCarthy writes Ciara Sharvin.

dn_screenFreddie O’Connor was next to add his name to the score sheet with a point from play. Bright were well on the attack with John McLeigh and Pearse scoreing points. Aughlisnafin got their first score from a free. Great defending from Joe Farrand and Shane McEvoy limited the scores from the Finn. Bright were unfortunate with a couple of wides and the ball hitting the post. John McLeigh took a chance at goal but unfortunately it narrowly missed the net going wide. Cunliffe Fitzsimons punched the ball over the bar to put Bright back in front. An injured Conor McAllister was replaced by Ciaran Quinn.

The defence came under attack again but great work from Francis Gerard McKinney saw Bright on the attack where they were fouled and a cracker free was taken by Pearce to leave half time score 0-6 to 0-4 to the home team. The second half saw Conor Doyle replace Matthew Burns. The Finn came out a different team and went for goal but great defensive work from Bright resulted in a fifty which went wide. John McLeigh got yet another point just before Corey Ranaghan was fouled and a quick taken free fed to Conor Kelly resulted in a goal. The Finn answered back with a point from a free but the goal gave Bright what they needed to get back on top. It was a rough and tough game with some players from both teams receiving yellow cards . The Finn managed to score two more points whilst Bright got another four, ending the game with a victory for the home team. Great performance from all over the pitch with Pearse McCarthy standing out with a superb personal performance. Well done lads!
