He said: “During these difficult times, with budgetary constraints effecting many of our services, it is welcomed news that not only is the library in Portaferry secure going forward into the future, but equally that the new opening hours are in line with public opinion and with no reduction in the current number of opening hours previously been offer to the public. This is  something that has to be welcomed by everyone.

“Portaferry as a community has been blessed with such a well-used facility, a facility for everyone from the very young to the not so young and continues to offer something for everyone.

“Having met with Portaferry manager Gemma Cassidy along with her staff, she is delighted with the new arrangements and discussed many activities that she intends introducing to the users and members of the facility.

“The staff in the Portaferry Library, down through the years, have always been extremely kind and helpful, it is therefore great to see that this is still the ethos operating within the facility and I wish the library and staff all the very best for the future and thank them for their excellent service to the community,” added Cllr Joe Boyle.
