Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Laura Devlin, said: “I will be lighting up Down Leisure Centre and Newry Town Hall in civic solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and BAME communities.

“It’s difficult to protest in large numbers in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I would discourage large crowds from protesting in public places as the health risk still remains within our community, we can still demonstrate clearly that Black Lives Matter by signing this online Book of Condolence and sharing our messages of support and solidarity extensively on social media.”
