Black Bin Waste Still As Issue In Warrenpoint Says Group

A local campaign group presses to have all black bins causing smells removed from around the harbour area.

Rotten to the Point, a Warrenpoint-based environmental group are calling for the removal of all black back waste around the harbour area prior to the tourism and festival season kicking in.

A spokesperson for Rotten to the Point, said: “2025 will see more Festivals, events, and cruise ships coming to our town of Warrenpoint and Carlingford Lough more than ever before and a welcome break for its townspeople and visitors to enjoy the warmer weather as well as the warm welcome from the Warrenpoint community to visitors that will come.

Rotten to the Point is campaigning to get rid of smells around the seafront and harbour area in Warrenpoint.

“Warrenpoint has always been a town and Lough that is well renowned for its great hospitality and for welcoming visitors from all over the World and it want to continue this ethos and grow.

“However, with bags of waste in the harbour area, it will be a lot harder for many to promote our area while we have this in the town.”

A spokesperson for Warrenpoint Harbour Authority said: Warrenpoint Harbour Authority closely monitors all operations on our site.

We are fully committed to being good neighbours and supporting the growth of the local and wider economy.

Rotten to the Point added: “The community wants all this stinking black bin waste to be cleared totally away when all these events and festivals take place that are listed.

“This is important so we can showcase our town with pride. The ongoing smells around the Warrenpoint seafront will affect the hard work of many people who put these festivals and events on as well as the townspeople and visitors, and all the businesses that need events like this.

“We have asked all bodies involved and local politicians to request that those responsible in Warrenpoint to have all black bags removed where possible before this season begins.

“And we would like these black bags removed from Warrenpoint not just for these Spring and Summer events but for good.

“We will never stop calling for this to be acted on for the community and to generally support our area.

“Surely those responsible for this issue of smells in Warrenpoint can give the people of the town and Carlingford Lough a break from this stinking black bin waste for each of the many events and festivals in our town coming up.

“Rotten to the Point has seen a sharp rise in January and now February of reported complaints with an online complaint form of the stinking black bag waste and we fear for what is to come.

“This needs to be addressed before people are put off by coming here.

“You can use the online complaints form on the Rotten to the Point Facebook page: HERE“.
