Be Aware Of Children Playing In Estates This Summer Says Caitriona Ruane

dn_screenSinn Fein MLA for South Down Catriona Ruane has urged drivers to be particularly vigilant around housing estates as the summer holidays begin.

She said: “Our office has recently received calls from concerned parents in the Rostrevor area with the schools closing soon for the holidays.

“Housing estates will be full of children playing games and enjoying the, hopefully, warm weather. So, I would remind all drivers to lower speeds and drive carefully as they enter and leave estates and be especially aware of children playing on or near the estates’ roads.”

Most estates have speed limits of 30 mph but even that may be deemed by some to be set too high. There is a growing school of through that 20mph should be introduced at least on a trial basis.
