Banbridge Trainer Lupini Puts In Two Entries To Southwell

Banbridge trainer Natalia Lupini is to send two runners to Southwell this Saturday – including a Group 3 Winter Derby chance.

Banbridge-based trainer Natalia Lupini will potentially be sending a couple of runners from County Down to the Midlands of Britain this weekend.

NatalĂa Lupini, Banbrdge trainer who hails from Italy, will be racing two horses at Southwell on Saturday 22nd February.

Lupini has a couple of entries in the Winter Derby at Southwell on Saturday, including one in the Group 3 Winter Derby on the all-weather surface.

Alanya looks set to make her debut for trainer Lupini this weekend having switched hands from previous handler Tom Gibney in the Group 3 Winter Derby (3.15) at Southwell this weekend.

Alanya was last seen at Newmarket in October 2024, finishing in midfield in a Group 3 Fillies and mares contest before being moved on and ending up in County Down with Lupini.

Alanya is currently a 40/1 chance to win the race at Southwell this weekend so is very much an outsider.

Lupini’s other runner could come on the same card at 6pm with Cousin Shay in the class four handicap, held over the mile trip.

Cousin Shay was last seen on the track at Dundalk on January 31, finishing 11th of 14 as a 4/1 joint-favourite in what was a slightly disappointing run.

So Lupini will be hoping her runner gets back to the form she showed previously when winning two prior starts, both at Dundalk, on January 10 and 14.
