BALLYNAHINCH UNITED 2 DUNMURRY YM 4 United crashed to their second consecutive defeat to Dunmurry YM at Millbridge on Saturday past. It was the visitors who started the brightest with some neat passing and on 10 minutes they took the lead when their winger finished off a slick move that saw him slip the ball past the despairing dive of Brian McMullan. United really could not get going and were lucky not to be 2 – 0 down when keeper McMullan gave away a penalty after bringing down a Dunmurry forward just inside the area. The referee decided that sufficient defenders were back to merit a yellow card and things got even better for the young keeper when he dived brilliantly to his right to save the spot kick. The euphoria of that moment did not last long as the United defence was again breached on the half hour mark from a corner. United did start to get into the game after this but they created very little forcing a succession of corners that were well defended. Things changed for the home team in the second half when they enjoyed long periods of play and in the opening minutes they got a goal back when Gareth McMullan’s long range free kick cannoned of the Dunmurry YM keeper’s chest and brother Stuart was on hand to shoot home. The home side were on the ascendency at this stage creating several chances that were well defended but the visitors managed to withstand the pressure. On the hour mark they made it 3 – 1 when a long ball evaded the United defence and a forward nipped in to lob Brian McMullan. United continued to press and in the 75th minute Ross Hayes made it 3 – 2 when he side footed Stuart McMullan’s free kick into the net. Stuart McMullan had a great opportunity to equalise in the closing stages but he unselfishly squared the ball and the opportunity was lost as the defenders managed to scramble the ball clear. In the closing minutes Dunmurry YM took advantage of United’s all out attack strategy to put the game out of their reach with a breakaway goal. BUFC NOTES A poor weekend on the field of play for United as the 2nds lost away to Groomsport with Scott McKibbin getting their only goal while a weakened Albion side put up a decent showing but lost 3 – 0 against Rathriland.
