Club Notes

Rugby returned to Ballymacarn Park for 2023-24 as Ballynahinch enter their 70th season aiming to defend their Stevenson Shield and Senior Cup titles and consolidate their status in the top half of AIL Division 1A writes James Kirk.

They got off the mark in fine style on Saturday with a seven try victory over Dungannon.

The visitors edged ahead after a cagey opening quarter and were still leading on the stroke of half-time but a brace of tries before the break opened the game up and ruthless finishing in the early part of the second half blew the Tyrone men away.

By the 50th minute the score was 35-3 and the result was not in doubt. Adam Craig rang the changes and the game was more even in the final quarter with two tries for each side leaving the final score 47-17.

Clayton Milligan finished with a hat trick and Conor Rankin nailed 6 out of 7 conversions as the home side warmed up for the visit of QUB next weekend.

The 2nds lost 17-12 at home to Ballymoney in their first Group match in the Junior Cup despite leading at half time but can be proud of the fight they showed against a more experienced Co. Antrim outfit.
