Keen-eyed Ballykinler cadet Adam Smith has been celebrating sporting success in the 2015 NI Cadets Rifle Meeting held at Ballykinlar.

The teenage Cadet Corporal headed off strong competition from across Northern Ireland to secure victory in a key match and earn runner-up place in the Champion-At-Arms award.

Congratulating Adam on his achievement, Colonel David McCleery OBE, Colonel Cadets (NI), said: “Cadets from this corner of County Down have traditionally been amongst our top marksmen and, clearly, Adam is ready to pick up that baton!

“The Ballykinlar Detachment has easy access to a superb on-site rifle shooting range and the Cadets there take full advantage of that facility, putting in many hours of practice year-round.

“Rifle shooting is one of the most popular and exciting of the many sports and activities we offer and that is reflected in the high numbers of skilled competitors in the Cadets Rifle Meeting, each with their eyes on the prize! Adam is to be congratulated on this latest sporting achievement and I am sure we will see more of his sporting successes in the future.”
