Speaking about the engagement, Ms.Bailie said:xa0“Our local fishing industry been under severe financial pressure for an extended period of time and we in Sinn Féin are committed to ensuring that Fishermen in the area are given as much assistance as possible during these harsh times.

“Following on from Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill’s commitment in February to provide a Fishermen’s Assistance Package, we now want to look at how Martina in her role as an MEP can build on that assistance and provide support to our local fishing industry from Europe.

“Last year we had a very successful engagement with representatives from our fishing community and Martina Anderson, which was extremely beneficial to both parties. Martina as an MEP is fully aware of the difficulties that fishermen are faced with and will continue to work to ensure that local views are brought to the corridors of Brussels.”
