There was very little activity in and around the club over the past fortnight but it promises to be busy throughout August and September for all our teams in the leagues and championship writesxa0Geároid Ó Lionnacháin.
Although us Down folk don’t have much to shout about at Inter-County level in the GAA Football Championship, one man however, a certain Mr Duffy formerly of Ballybay and now a Fin senior team player will be wearing his Monaghan top with pride at training in the coming weeks. The Ladies played Saul in a 9-a-side challenge gamexa0on Saturday. With both teams without several regulars it was an opportunity for others to get game time. The Fin won 3-11 to 2-7 and the 15 girls the Fin took to Raholp all saw action over three 20 minute periods of play. Training continues everyxa0Mondayxa0andxa0Thursdayxa0in Annsborough atxa06.40 pm. The ladies play Bright in the semi final of the Junior Championshipxa0on Saturdayxa03xa0August.
Naomh Seosamh U-16’s have been drawn in Group 1 of the All County U-16B Championship along with CBS (Castlewellan, Bosco or Saval tbc), Drumclone, Ballymartin and Clann Na Derg. The first game will bexa0this Thursday evening atxa07.30pmxa0with opposition yet to be confirmed. They will then play at home to Drumclone (1xa0August), away to Ballymartin (15xa0August) and final game at home to Clann Na Derg (22xa0August). Naomh Seosamh have not played any of these teams this season as they are Division 2 or 3A teams and while Naomh Seosamh played in 3B. Training for all Aughlisnafin/Ballykinlar/
The U-14’s have been drawn in Group B of the East Down U14C Championship along with Bredagh B, Darragh Cross and Dromara. The first match is away to Bredagh B at Cherryvalexa0next Monday at 7.30 pm. They will then play at home to Dromaraxa0on Mondayxa05xa0August with their last game in the round robin format also at home to Darragh Crossxa0on Mondayxa012thxa0August. The top two teams after all games are played will progress to the semi finals along with the top two in Group A.
The Seniors are back in action this week and are away to Drumanessxa0this Fridayxa0atxa07.30 pm. No training this week but there will be a challenge game against Kilcoo Thirdsxa0on Tuesday at 7.30 pmxa0in Kilcoo.
The U-12’s are also back in action after a three week break and are away to Dundrumxa0this Sunday at 12 noon. The U-12’s have topped the East Down Division 3 all season and hope to pick up where they left off. Three games remain afterxa0Sundayxa0being Teconnaught (H), Ardglass (A), Drumaness (A). The Year 9 Championship will commence towards the end of the summer. The U-12’s squad will train this Thursday evening atxa06.30 pm.
The Year 6 (U-10 5’s) will take part in Go Gamesxa0this Saturday at 10.30 amxa0hosted by Teconnaught with Dromara and St Paul’s also in attendance.
The Year 4 (U-8.5’s) will take part in Go Gamesxa0this Saturday at 10.30 amxa0in Annsborough hosted by Aughlisnafin with Bredagh, RGU, Kilclief and Loughinisland the visiting clubs.
Training for all Year 4’s and under atxa06.30pm on Thursday.
The U-8’s have been entered into the RGU Blitzxa0on Saturdayxa010xa0August. The U-8=s are the current holders of the Shield.
After the success of the club’s promotion of recreational social football for the men we are now gauging interest in Gaelic4Mothers. Any former players or even late starters that are interested in playing for a Finn team contact Orla Flanagan.
