Kellie Armstrong said: “As Alliance Party spokeperson on Infrastructure I have regularly highlighted the importance of the Blue Badge scheme to many people across Northern Ireland. It can be a vital link to the community for those with mobility issues, ensuring they are able to live their lives as fully as possible outside their homes.

“I recently raised with Minister Hazzard the unacceptable delays in processing both new and renewal applications and suggested it should not be necessary for all Blue Badge holders to renew every three years.

“Many Blue Badge holders have mobility issues which are unlikely to change and I have previously suggested these people should not have to renew every three years. I welcome the announcement of a review for this group and would urge all Blue Badge holders to ensure their voice is heard through the consultation.”
