Ards Arts Centre Welcomes Exhibitions by Jonathan Conlon and Betty Brown
Ards Arts Centre in Newtownards is pleased to welcome two new art exhibitions to its Georgian and Sunburst Galleries:xa0a solo exhibition byxa0Jonathan Conlonxa0BA, the the ‘1:12 scale’, andxa0a solo exhibition of work byxa0Betty Brown, MA PPRUA,
They will preview their works on Thursday 24th April at 7pm.
Belfast based artistxa0Jonathan Conlonxa0will present a series of large-scale figurative/portrait works in oils. Drawing on digitally mediated existences, Conlon engages both familiar and unfamiliar subjects to challenge perceptions about how we view one another.u202fxa0

Using digital collage and distorted camera film, Conlon will compose and obstruct the viewer’s gaze. The enhanced scale and muted palette further distance the subject from their observer. Audiences will be invited to reflect on their own experiences of knowing and belonging, both online and offline.

This new exhibition byxa0Betty Brown MA PPRUAxa0takes inspiration from the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig.
Featuring a 1:12 scale doll house replica of the ‘Big House’ in Betty’s inimitable style, the exhibition will also show paintings and new works inspired by the model.xa0

Bettyu202fBrown MA is a renowned visual artist practicing for over forty-five years.u202fBettyu202fwas elected President of the Royal Ulster Academy in 2018 and completed a three-year term of office in June 2021.xa0xa0
Both exhibitions will open on Thursday 24 April and continue until Saturday 17 May. Admission is free.
