Ards Arts Centre welcomes two new exhibitions to its galleries next week.

SHADOWS ON THE WALL, a solo exhibition by Daniel Coleman and Ikebana, an exhibition of Japanese Floral Art by Mary Pearson.

Both exhibitions open on Thursday 28 September.

Daniel Coleman will present new paintings that explore place and the personal.

Using memory and time, he will examine the significance of every day. Daniel’s work is steeped in symbolism and meaning in relation to his rural Irish upbringing.

Don’t miss Shadows on the Wall exhibition by Daniel Coleman.

Daniel is a visual artist specialising in painting and is a studio holder of Platform Arts Belfast, and is a member of the drawing collective, ‘The Drawing Journal.’

He recently exhibited in ‘New Exits: 10 Year of Painting Shows,’ at THE MAC, Belfast.

SHADOWS ON THE WALL previews in The Georgian Gallery in Ards Arts Centre on Thursday 28 September, 7pm – 9pm.

Mary Pearson, ceramic and ikebana artist, creates work inspired by nature that is an exploration of symbiosis, geomorphism and biomorphism.

She has explored the sculptural qualities of plant material through the art of contemporary and abstract ikebana.

This exhibition, based on her own artistic practice, will showcase works of original free expression, using organic and inorganic materials, focusing on line, mass and colour.

Some of the ikebana works will include ceramic pieces she has made previously, combining them with plant materials to create new sculptural forms.

Ikebana also previews on Thursday 28 September, 7pm – 9pm, in The Sunburst Gallery.

Speaking about the exhibitions, Emily Crawford, Arts and Heritage Manager for Ards and North Down Borough Council said: “Visit Ards Arts Centre from 29 September to experience two striking and very different new exhibitions.

“In the Sunburst Gallery you will find a living exhibition of ikebana art by local artist Mary Pearson featuring plant matter that will evolve and change over the course of the month giving visitors an opportunity to experience organic changes in the work.”

Ikebana runs until Friday 20 October and SHADOWS ON THE WALL until Tuesday 24 October.

Admission is free during gallery opening hours.
