He returned home from Chicago with Paul Vaughan, friend and Ardglass Golf Club PGA Pro, who supported him and caddied for him on the US trip. Cormac’s father Lawrence also joined them on the trip.

Ardglass Golf Club Captain Terry Murphy said: “Everyone at the club is so proud of what Cormac has achieved this year from winning the Brabazon trophy for the English Amateur Open title to his excellent performance in any other events. He just seems to get better and better.

“We wish him well in the Walker Cup and we are in no doubt that he will shine on the weekend of the event. A large contingent from the club will be heading over to Royal Lytham and St Anne’s Golf Course to support Cormac and cheer him on. He is a great young man with a superb game and disposition and we look forward to the Walker Cup being retained by GB and Ireland this time round.”

Ardglass Golf Club pro Paul Vaughan said: “It was a great achievement to get into the world top fifty and get an invite to the US amateur, although slightly disappointing for Cormac after missing the cut by just one shot. A few missed putts meant Cormac didn’t reach the last 64 match play stages. His performance at Olympia Fields in Illinois was positive despite missing the cut but his game is in good shape heading to the Walker Cup.

“Cormac is a great friend and I am absolutely delighted in his selection to represent GB&I at Royal Lytham next month. It’s great to see his success over the past couple years along with hard work being recognised. It makes the hours on the golf range worth while.

“The Walker Cup is just the next stage in Cormac’s career and what an achievement it is. I know he is delighted that he has four friends from his Irish team joining him a Royal Lytham. We all stayed together in Chicago last week including Paul Dunne, Gary Hurley and Cormac’s dad Lawrence. All the guys could talk about in the days leading up to the team being announced was the Walker Cup… will we get picked? Will there be five  on the team? Well here we are, and the guys are all picked. The Famous 5. It’s great for golf in Ireland.

“Cormac returns to Stirling University after the Walker Cup to finish the last year of his degree and plans to turn Pro following that in 2016. He really has a great future in front of him. Golf is a very competitive sport and we all know how tough it is but I believe Cormac has what it takes to be a success in the Pro game.”

Cormac is so proud to be representing Ireland and knows that all eyes in County Down will be on him as the last great golfer to play from the County in the Walker Cup was Rory McIlroy back in 2007.Everyone at Ardglass Golf Club is just buzzing with pride that he has been selected for the Walker Cup team.

In total five Irishmen have been selected to play on the 45th Walker Cup which also included the Open amateur star Paul Dunne who stole the limelight on the Open leaderboard this summer as he was leading after 54 holes.

The ten GB and Ireland golfers will be attempting to win back the historic trophy which is played for every two years. In 2013, the US won convincingly with a victory of 17-9 at the National Golf Links of America at Southhampton in the United States, but the visitors will be faced with talented and hungry new kids on the block such as Sharvin and Dunne who have already shown their metal on links courses.

Speaking about his selection to the Walker Cup panel to play at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s, Cormac Sharvin said: “The selection to the Walker Cup team is just a dream come true for me. I really intend to give it all I’ve got. I’ve had a decent season and my game is in pretty good shape. I just can’t wait to get to Lytham.

“I’m really delighted all the folks at Ardglass Golf Club are following me and giving me so much support. It means so much to me. Everybody in Ardglass have always giving me 100% support.

“I’m off when I return from Paris for a week. I plan to get some prep done on a few links courses before heading to Lytham. I’d like to play Royal County Down a couple times which will help me before arriving at Lytham. A few games of golf and a few hours with Paul I will be ready and raring to go by the time 12th September comes around. We have a strong team and I’m hoping i can help put a couple points on the board and hopefully we can pull off a victory.”
