Ardglass GAC Notes For 22 May 2016

The SENIORS returned to their winning ways on Friday evening with a fine display in trying conditions against Newry Mitchel’s writes Michelle Teggart. Ardglass adapted to the conditions better and surged into an early lead with a series of well worked points. Ardglass maintained this lead throughout and ran out ten point winners 0-15 to 0-5. Best for Ardglass were Caolain O’Shea and Niall Cahir in defence, while Stephen Rooney dominated the midfield exchanges with David Armstrong and Caolan Conlon impressive in the forward line.

dn_screenThe RESERVES also returned to winning ways with a good display at home to near neighbours Bright on Sunday evening. An all round team performance saw Ardglass secure a six point win 4-6 to 2-6. There were strong performances from Terry Kearney and Clifford O’Connor in defence and Lee McEvoy in the forward line. Best wishes to Colin Smyth who sustained a fractured wrist during the game.

The U-14’s season so far has been a slow starter with only two games played in six weeks. However, their season kicked into gear this week with two home games played and two victories secured. The first game saw Bredagh travel to Ardtole on Monday evening, the home side started impressively with Jamie McDarby moved from defence to full forward causing the Bredagh full back plenty of difficulties as he struck 3 goals.

The opening 10 minutes of the second period saw Bredagh regain a foothold in the game with two quick goals, however Ardglass dug deep to secure a 8-6 to 4-5 win. In their second game Kilclief travelled up the Strangford road to Ardtole on Thursday evening, in a tight and entertaining game Ardglass over came the Ben Derg boys 4-5 to 0-12. Michael Walker kept a clean sheet and was impressive under the high ball and with his kickout distribution while Ruairi Deegan and Conor Devlin enjoyed a competitive midfield battle with their Kilclief counter parts.

The U-12’s travelled to Kilclief on Sunday morning and served up their best performance of the season so far. Chris Wright was making his debut at this level and was an assuring presence in nets. The defence was well marshalled by Ryan Devlin, Andrew Addis and Rachel Rooney, while Dara O’Shea was a thorn in Kilclief’s side with his rampaging runs from half back. Ryan Cusack was also making his first appearance of the season and bagged 1-2 from Midfield.

The diminutive duo of Pabhraig O’Shea and Oisin Dunn caused problems throughout with their constant movement and were well supported by Sophie Davies. Gavin O’Shea rose highest to palm to the net from a 45 while Eoin McMullan put in a powerhouse performance at full forward which was topped of with a pile driver of a goal in the second half as Ardglass secured a 3-7 to 2-5 victory.
