Ardglass GAC Notes For 11 April 2016

MINDSET AWARENESS PROGRAMME: As part of our well-being initiative, Action Mental Health will be at the clubrooms this Thursday, 14th April @ 6pm to run their Mindset Programme writes Michelle Teggart.  This is a free course and will run for 3.5hrs. There are a maximum 20 places left on this course and places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Anyone who selected to attended on the Well-Being evening in January are already included onto the programme. To hear more about the course and get involved, contact club Health & Well-Being Officer, Ruth Curran.

dn_screenThe U-14’s won their opening game away to St John’s on a wet and windy Monday evening, a strong first half performance gave them a commanding lead and although they failed to score against the wind in the second half they defended resolutely and restricted their opponents to a handful of scores and secured a deserved two points. Best for Ardglass were Conor Devlin, Ruairi Deegan, Dara O’Shea and a fine 1-1 from Conall O’Shea.

The MINORS lost their opening game to Kilclief at Ardtole last Tuesday, a tight first half saw the visitors take a three point lead as Ardglass missed a penalty to draw level, kilclief came out of the blocks in the second half quicker as they scored three quick-fire goals in the opening exchanges to take a lead Ardglass could not fully close. The pick of the Ardglass players where Conor Kearney, Jordan Finnegan and Jack Zych.

The U-16’s travelled to St John’s on Thursday and in a game of two halves they could not take advantage of their wind assisted half time lead as St John’s took full advantage and the 2 points. Best for Ardglass was Ciaran Lennon in nets, Ross O’Shea and Ciaran Fitzpatrick.

The U-12’s played 2 games in in 3 days as they opening their account on a miserable Friday night in Ardtole with a win over Dundrum, while on Sunday morning they travelled to Bredagh, unfortunately they didn’t return with the points, over the both games Eoin McMullan, Flinn Morgan, Rachel Rooney and Gavin O’Shea performed extremely well.

On Saturday morning Ardtole hosted the first East Down Blitz of the season with RGU, Kilclief, Teconnaught, Killyleagh, and Carryduff were the visitors and a wonderful morning of fast flowing, skilful and enjoyable football ensued, well done to all the teams, over the morning Andrew Addis, Pabhraig O’Shea, Patrick Dunlop, Oisin Dunn and Ronan Deegan excelled for Ardglass while Eoin Rooney stepped up from the under 8 squad and scored his for goal at this level. A special word of thanks must be given to East Down Assistant Secretary John Nugent, whose fixture schedule was decimated by the weather and withdrawals but ensured 8 teams got football over 2 venues on the day.

The RESERVES played their first win of the season on Sunday at home to St John’s, a game played in blustery conditions Ardglass made better use of the wind to take a large half time lead, in the second half Ardglass pushed on ran out winners 4-19 to 1-11, Eamon McEvoy and Paul O’Shea anchored the defence with the aid of Terry Kearney and Mark Magennis, while the two man full forward of Raymond Lundy and Caelan Conlon wreaked havoc with the help of Christian O’Connor and Aaron Ibinson.

The SENIORS opened their Division 4 campaign with a 3 point win away to near neighbours Bright. It was a game played in unseasonal conditions both teams initially struggling to get to terms with the weather, however, as they finally settled the game ebbed and flowed as both teams exchanged scores, midway through the second half Ardglass pulled away and eased to a 3 pint win 2-10 to 1-10. Best for Ardglass were Malachy Crangle and Shane Teggart in defence, with Antoin O’Shea and Neil Teggart in the forward line, while Owen Curran top scored with 2-1 from play,

TRAINING: Senior & Reserve training continues at Ardtole every Monday and Wednesday night @ 7pm. For the U-8, U-10 & U-12 teams, Thursdays in Ardtole starting at 6.30pm. Training times for the U-14, U-16 & Minor teams have yet to be confirmed by management teams.

MEMBERSHIP: All memberships should be paid at this stage. For anyone who has not yet paid, please contact our Club Registrar ASAP.
