Police Appeal After Shop Robbery In Newtownards

Detectives in Newtownards are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at a shop on High Street in the town last night (Sunday, 18 July).

Police in Newtownards are seeking information from the puiblic.

Detective Sergeant Westbury said: “Police received a report just before 10.15pm that a man, armed with a knife, entered the premises between 9.50pm and 9.55pm. It was reported he made his way behind the counter where he threatened a staff member with a knife and demanded money.

“The suspect fled the shop with a sum of money and made off on a dark-coloured bicycle in the direction of Conway Square. He is described as being aged in his mid-20s, approximately 5’ 10” to 5’ 11” in height, of a slim build with dark fair hair and was wearing a black-coloured jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes on the sides and light grey trainers.

“While, thankfully, the staff member was physically unharmed, this was a terrifying experience for them.”
