Housing Executive Revamps Homes In Killyleagh

Re-vamped public spaces delight Castleview tenants in Killyleagh.

Neighbourhood spaces in the Castleview area of Killyleagh have been completely transformed by the Housing Executive.

ยฃ35,000 was invested in recent upgrades and the makeover consisted of removing old brick planters, paving slabs and fixing a broken streetlight.

Railings were painted, new brick pavers laid and shrubs have been planted in timber containers.

Grass, new fencing and trees also now create an impressive, modern space for Castleview tenants to enjoy.

Consultations with local tenants were held in the local community centre prior to the work being carried out to keep them informed and to gather new ideas.

Liam Gunn, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager for South Down, said: โ€œThere were some issues with anti-social behaviour in this area before the improvement works took place and we wanted to improve the appearance of the area for the benefit of local residents.

โ€œOur Downpatrick Patch Team Leader, Bronagh Magorrian and Neil Andrews, our Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, worked very hard to bring this project to fruition.

โ€œWe wanted to look at reimaging this space so we could give something back to the local community.

โ€œEveryone can see how well it now looks and the community has also been very supportive of the scheme

โ€œAs we gradually emerge lockdown and into the warmer months, we hope local tenants are able to enjoy their new and improved space.โ€
