Brown Supports Call For Crossgar Radar Speed Trap

Alliance councillor Patrick Brown calls for radar speed sign in Crossgar.

Rowallane councillor Patrick Brown is urging the members of Newry Mourne & Down PCSP (Policing & Community Safety Partnership) to implement a radar speed sign on Killyleagh Road in Crossgar, preferably near St Colmcille’s High School or even beforehand, closer to Short Cross Lane.

Cllr Patrick Brown.

Cllr Brown said: โ€œThere is a clear need for further speed calming provisions in Crossgar, as highlighted by the concerns of local residents about the rate at which motorists are entering via the Killyleagh Road.

“This is an ongoing issue and one I have raised in the past, especially as Crossgar grows and becomes increasingly popular with young families that have children.โ€

The PSCP has confirmed that, although the process of identifying locations for speed indicator signs across the District has come to a close, following lobbying by Cllr Brown it will add the Killyleagh Road site to the list of potential future locations when funding becomes available to extend the initiative.

Cllr Brown added: โ€œWhile I appreciate the efforts of the Department of Infrastructure in moving the 30mph signs further out of the village, it does not seem to have alleviated the problem of speeding and reckless driving in Crossgar.

“This was shown by the significant crash that occurred very recently. As such, further steps are required in order to address the issue and I am pleased that the PSCP will consider the Killyleagh Road in its next review process.โ€
