The replacement of sodium lights with with LED at Widows Row in Newcastle is welcomed by Mourne’s Councillor Willie Clarke.

Mournes Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has welcomed the upgrade of the existing street lights at Widows Row Newcastle.

The new LED lighting has replaced the old sodium lighting, which was extremely problematic.

Cllr Clarke said: “The new LED lighting will improve safety, reduce energy consumption and revenue maintenance.

“It will also improve the night time environment through improved quality and uniformity of lighting.

“The new lighting has been greatly appreciated by local residents many who are elderly, who previously had been left in darkness on a regular basis.

“This is a significant investment by DFI Roads but will ultimately provide a long-term saving in energy cost and maintenance,” added Cllr Clarke.
