Fertility Programme Still On Hold At Belfast Trust

Belfast Trust is unclear over when the fertility programme will start again.

The Belfast Trust has remained unclear over re-starting treatment at the Regional Fertility Centre at the Royal Victoria Hospital writes Kevin McAteer.

Fertility treatment has been postponed due to Covid 19 which has affected many couples within the Down district.

Fertility treatment can be a long drawn-out and emotional process and for some a ‘time sensitive’ issue which has resulted in many couples requiring clarity on when they can restart treatment.

The Belfast Trust has in recent weeks come under fire regarding what some have called a slow process in returning to some sort of normality whilst restrictions are being eased more and more throughout the country.

A spokesperson for the Belfast Trust said: “The Regional Fertility Centre has completed the approval process with the HFEA demonstrating that we can comply with the guidelines to provide a safe environment for staff and patients.

“Belfast Trust is currently planning how to restart elective services across all of our acute and community sites.

“The Regional Fertility Clinic is part of this planning process. We appreciate the impact that this temporary closure of service can have on our patients, further support can be found via:
