A council spokesperson said that designated Newry Mourne and Down District Council leisure centres will begin reopening their gym facilities on a restricted basis and phased approach from Monday 20 July.

Newry Leisure Centre, Down Leisure Centre and Kilkeel Leisure Centre will reopen in the first phase from 20 July with gym facilities only, following recent announcements from the Northern Ireland Executive.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Laura Devlin said she was delighted leisure facilities were starting to reopen and highlighted that there would some changes to help keep people safe.

Cllr Devlin added: “We have been working hard to ensure that we open our leisure centres in the safest way possible, taking a step by step approach to ensure your safety,” she said.

“We aim to accommodate as many people as possible, but we need to ensure that we also adhere to government guidelines. We are working hard to provide you with the best service we can in a safe and welcoming environment. We want you to again Be Active but also Be Safe.”

In advance of reopening, there will be further information provided on safety guidance to be aware of before attending as well as guidance on how to book a gym slot in advance.
