Castle Espie Joins With Local Distillery On Hand Sanitiser

Castle Espie Wetland Centre Conservation Charity Partners with Echlinville Ahead of Reopening.

Castle Espie Wetland Centre has partnered with Echlinville Distillery ahead of its reopening on Tuesday 7 July to help members of the public stay safe when they visit the popular Centre.

The Rubane based distillery switched production from alcoholic drinks to hand sanitiser during the pandemic and the Wetland Centre, which is a registered conservation charity, took delivery of a batch of sanitiser in preparation for reopening its doors to the public.

Visitors will be encouraged to use the sanitiser on arrival and throughout their visit. This is one of a range of measures that have been put in place to ensure everyone stays safe in the continued battle against COVID-19.

The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Trevor Cummings, said:

“I’m delighted to see a local business and a local conservation charity working together. At a time when hand sanitiser is more important than ever, Echlinville Distillery was able to diversify and produce sanitiser that has since been distributed to shops across Ards and North Down.”

“This has been of real benefit to the businesses and people in our borough. It will ensure visitors to the beautiful Castle Espie can stay safe while they enjoy the Wetland Centre’s tranquil surroundings.”

Castle Espie has reopened with reduced hours (10am-5pm, Monday to Sunday). Limited numbers will be permitted access and visitors must book in advance through the Centre’s website at:
