Ballynahinch RFC launch limited edition jersey in support of local mental health charities. Hinch players, management and supporters are backing an initiative to help raise funds for these local charities.

James Kirk, chairman of Ballynahinch RFC, said: “Lockdown has dealt a significant blow to the mental health of the local community, with support services curtailed and access to the outdoors restricted.

“As lockdown continues to ease, Ballynahinch RFC would like to reflect our community ethos by raising money for local mental health charities Extern and Ballynahinch Counselling service.

“In conjunction with our kit supplier BLK we have designed a limited edition ‘Superhero’ jersey to emphasise all the hard work which will lies ahead for mental health organisations as they pick up the pieces following the coronavirus pandemic. Funding streams have slowed up as the focus has fallen on primary healthcare.”

“Poor mental health can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, background, career, education etc. and looking after your mental health is vital for overall health & wellbeing.”

A spokesperson for Ballynahinch Counselling Service said: “Everyone is delighted that Ballynahinch RFC have chosen to raise mental health awareness in such a positive and unique way.

“It will help tremendously towards continuing provision of the very important and necessary service we offer to everyone in the Ballynahinch and Mid-Down Area.”

And an Extern spokesperson said: “We are delighted Ballynahinch Rugby Football Club has chosen to support its work with the most vulnerable people in our communities.

“Right now thousands of people are in crisis and they need our support more than ever. The funds raised through these one-of a kind jerseys will help us to offer that help where it is most needed.”

James Kirk added: “Jerseys must be pre-ordered through the rugby club social media outlets and all profit from sales will go to the nominated charities. Please help us make a difference.”
