Man Attacked By Gang In Downpatrick Estate

A police spokesperson said that detectives are investigating the report of an assault on a man in Downpatrick’s Flying Horse Estate and have made two arrests.

Detective Sergeant Foley said: “The police received a report at approximately 2am Saturday 30th May that a man had been assaulted near a shop in the vicinity of Pegasus Walk. It was reported up to ten males were involved in the attack, some of whom were reportedly wielding hammers and metal bars.xa0

A man was attacked by a gang of up to ten in the Flying Horse Estate in Downpatrick.

“NIAS attended and the man, who is aged in his thirties, was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, including to his face.xa0

“We subsequently arrested two men, aged 28 and 30 years old. Both men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. They both remain in custody at this time, assisting us with our enquiries.xa0

“This was a brutal assault, for which there is no justification and we are working to establish a motive for this assault.xa0
