Churches Open For Private Prayer As Covid-19 Eases

Churches across Ireland have opened as part of phase one of the easing of COVID-19 Government restrictions writes Ben King.

Most churches have reopened their churches providing they have put measures in place which comply with health guidelines.

Many churches have created designated, socially distanced seating, sanitising facilities and one-way systems where possible, to protect parishioners who want a moment to pray and relax in the surrounding of their Church.

Although Churches may allow some time for people to express their faith, Masses and services are not permitted.

Archbishop Eamon Martin, the Primate of the Irish Catholic Church and administrator of Dromore Diocese said: โ€œThis weekend we celebrate Pentecost, the great feast of the holy spirit.

โ€œWe have all made great sacrifices to protect life and health and support the common good. Our sacrifices are bearing fruit, thank God.

โ€œI want to thank you today at local level to plan for the full re-opening of parish life and worship. I encourage you to work with your priests so that your parish stands ready when the public health authorities say it is safe to celebrate mass.”

The Archbishop has announced that the Irish Catholic bishops have begun planning online services.

He said: โ€œAt a national level, we have almost completed our work on a framework which will offer best practice on collective worship.โ€xa0
