Shirley Lennon, the dedicated co-ordinator at Fountain Foodbank, and the volunteers are facing mounting pressure with demands on the service that the voluntary group provides to the needy in the Downpatrick area.
She said: “Thank you Down News for the recent very helpful press coverage you have given to Fountain Foodbank. It really boosted donations at a key time, which meant we could make the most of our last real open session today.
“We have had to make changes reluctantly to our operations because of safety of the safety of all our workers in line with Government guidelines.Â
“PLEASE PASS ON TO ALL COLLEAGUES OR THOSE WHO MAKE REFERRALS.
“It is with regret that we have had to make these changes again to the operation of Fountain Foodbank. “We are keeping within Government guidelines and trust you will respect the difficult decisions. Fountain Foodbank will offer a delivery service once a fortnight, beginning next Wednesday 1st April.
“The delivery service is strictly for those in desperate food poverty.Â
“It is not for those who cannot get out to shops. Other agencies should help with this type of case.

Dominic will take client details, size of family and address. Helpful information about locations might be useful., especially post codes. (blue door, opposite Murphy’s shop etc) “We will deliver to clients.
“The parcels will be left outside the client’s door. We will not enter premises. Let your client know the delivery will be made on Wednesday and to expect it. “Food supplies may be limited- we can only give what we have.
“For reference food donations can only be made in Asda, Downpatrick and Supervalu, Ballymote and NOT the church from now on.
“We have valued your support especially during recent days.”
