The next flower arranging class is Wednesday 13th Nov at 7pm. We will be making an autumn ring wreath. You will need a oasis ring (can purchase from us tonight) foliage, eg. Castlewellan Gold, Spruce, Seed headed ivy or forest flame. You will also need flowers in a mixed bouquet in the colour of your choice. Don’t forget to bring your scissors and accessories such as lotus heads, pine cones, dried oranges or whatever else you fancy adding. A glass lantern can be placed in the centre of wreath for a table arrangement or a ribbon/bow can be added to hang from your door. Cost is £5 for class and £4 for ring, refreshments will be served after class.
The order for the jerseys from The Siobhan Mc Cann 7s are expected to arrive in the first week of December.
We will be planting some more daffodils in our Marie Curie Field of Memories next Saturday at 10.00am (weather permitting) if anyone wants to come along and be involved.
A Mass to remember our deceased members will take place in St. Mary of The Angels, Clonvaraghan on Monday 18th November at 7.30pm
St. John’s walking group had a longer than usual excursion in the Mournes on Saturday (2nd November). This was because we included a Leave No Trace training session into our dander. We learnt something of the fragilities of our mountain environment and how we minimize our impact upon the mountains, the flora and fauna and other users. We even learnt how to do what responsible bears do in the woods. Many thanks to Caris and Marie for delivering the training in such a sympathetic and good humoured manner.
The learning didn’t detract from the walking; indeed if anything if added to our enjoyment. We started with a cuppa and a chat at Meelmore Lodge before making our way out onto the hills. We got some navigation practice in to find a great lunch stop by a babbly brook before pushing onto Luke Mountain. Half the height of Slieve Donard yet having twice the views. We made our way back along the lower slopes of Slievenaglogh, forded the Trassey River and followed an old quarry track back to Meelmore Lodge.
Darkness was beginning to fall and the big pots of tay and cakes were both very welcome and well deserved. Our next outing is on Sunday 30th November and will take us back to the Mournes with a section of the Ulster Way, Slievemiskan and Cock Mountain being our targets for the day.
Saturday walks – meet at the club and be ready to leave at 9.00am.
Walks may change at short notice depending on weather etc. Contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 for further details. kevin.mcglynn62@gmail.com
