Get Down To The Downtime SummerFest

Come enjoy the four day community festival in Downpatrick!

Marking the start of summer, Downpatrick’s four day community festival,
Downtime SummerFest, funded by Newry Mourne and Down District Council, has just launched, and it unveils an action-packed,four-day line-up of activities.

Taking place on the 13-16th June in Downpatrick, this year’s Downtime
Summerfest will be a celebration of food, arts, music, sports and family
entertainment.  Featuring 30 different events, activities which include musical acts, arts and crafts workshops as well as food from local artisan producers… and there will be two days of horse racing at Downpatrick Racecourse over the four days.

One of this year’s main attractions will be the busking competition. Open to
people from all abilities the competition will not only offer the chance to perform in front of crowds, but it also provides the opportunity to win a locally made and highly sought-after, Sheeran by Lowden guitar provided by Downpatrick Racecourse.

Speaking ahead of Downtime Summerfest, Newry Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson, Councillor Terry Andrews said: “Downtime SummerFest provides an opportunity for the local community to come together and enjoy a wealth of family-focused activities over four-days. The festival also aims to attract new visitors to the town, showcasing
Downpatrick’s incredible heritage and culture, visitor attractions and
renowned hospitality.xa0xa0

“Downtime SummerFest is a community effort that we hope will not only
provide a major economic boost for Downpatrick and the wider area, but one that will grow and expand over the coming years, establishing the town as a must-visit venue.

“The line-up for this year is jam-packed and a great credit to the festival
team who have worked hard to pull this wonderful festival together for the
local community.”

Outlining what else is on offer at this year’s Downtime Summerfest, Down
Community Arts Project Manager, Philip Campbell adds: “Last year’s festival was brilliant, and really allowed us to show everyone
what Downpatrick has to offer. This year we have built on that momentum to create a fun-packed weekend for all the family. We have a wonderful line-up of activities from baby opera to busking competitions to live street art. 

“The festival has been crafted to offer people the opportunity to spend a
few days exploring all that our town has to offer, before spending Sunday at
Downpatrick Racecourse, which was named as the 2018 Sports Venue of the
Year. This year’s festival has a wide range of great food, brilliant music
and amazingly talented artists, there’s something for everyone.”

Downtime Summerfest runs from 13-16th June throughout Downpatrick. To
