Woman Charged In Court Of Claiming Benefits While Working

Woman convicted of benefit fraud.

A woman was convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court today for claiming £779 in benefits she was not entitled to.

Sharon Clegg (51) of Church Grove, Clough, claimed Income Support totalling £779 while failing to declare employment. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.

Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously.
