Club Notes – Week Beginning 8th April 2019
On Sunday the Youth section completed a sponsored walk around the impressive walking track around the RGU facilities to raise some money to go towards the running of the football club. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participated and raised sponsorship money, we would also like to thank the RGU for allowing us to use their facility. Anyone who has still to return sponsorship money can they please do so before the end of this week.
The ladies continued their preparations for the new season when they travelled to play PSNI Ladies on Monday night winning by 4 – 2. Their season starts on Monday 15th April when they welcome Crewe United in the Women’s Cup in Dunleath, kick off is at 7.30pm. The match is sponsored by Downpatrick Sports Centre, all support welcome.
The under 17’s are in the semi-final action on Saturday morning against Comber Rec, this match kicks off at 10.45am at the Brook 3G Pitch. An impressive 1 nil victory last Saturday against Apex Sky Blues thanks to a James McKinney goal helped the under 17’s secure second place in their mini league and set up the semi-final.
The under 15’s play Celtic Bhoys on Saturday morning in the cup with both teams looking for a victory to secure a place in the final against Coney Island. This match kicks off at 10.50am in Dunleath.
The under 13’s play Camlough Rovers this Saturday morning in Dromore, this match kicks off at 9.00am. Last Saturday they defeated the same opposition to secure a place in the final by a score of 4 – 1, Downpatricks goals were scored by Charlie McCamley double, Sean Conway and Caolan Deegan.
The under 12’s (2007’s) played their first 11-a-side match against Warrenpoint Town last Saturday and came away with a 3 – 2 victory. Seany Duggan scored a double and Ben Shaw scored the winner. This Saturday they play Tollymore Bears at Dromore Pitches, the match kicks off at 9.00am.
The 2008’s also secured a place in the cup final at the beginning of May thanks to a 5 – 1 victory over Banbridge Colts, the goals coming from Jack Hynds, Oisin Hanna, Leo Noble, Kieran Trainor and Shay Holland. This Saturday they play North End United at the Lisburn Leisureplex, this match kicks off at 11.00am at Lisburn Leisureplex.
Our Mini Soccer training will continue to be on from 6.00pm – 7.00pm at the Red High 3G Pitch. This training is for children born in the following years 2009, 2010 & 2011. Players are asked to dress for the weather, wear football boots and shin guards. All old and new players are welcome. For more information contact Paul Moore on 07549 661772.
Training for our 2012 and 2013 age groups will continue at the Red High 3G pitch from 6.00pm – 7.00pm, please note that children will be outdoors and it’s important they are dressed for the weather and are wearing shin guards and football boots.
