Hanna welcomes much needed investment in Tyrella beach
Maynard Hanna, DUP representative and candidate for the forthcoming elections on 2 May, has welcomed the investment by Newry Mourne and Down District Council in Tyrella beach.
Speaking immediately after the Council agreed to the investment, Mr Hanna said:“Tyrella beach is a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest and holds Blue Flag status. It truly is one of the very best naturally formed coastal beach resources in Northern Ireland.
“However, on a recent visit I discovered that it does have deficiencies, including poor on-site amenities. This includes lack of car parking provision, inadequate toilet provision, weathered and used walkways, resulting in difficult and poor access to the beach for disabled people and parents with prams. The present information and safety signage boards are all in need of an urgent revamp.
“While these are all minor works schemes, collectively they have the potential to improve the overall visitor experience to the beach. This, coupled with visible information and directional road signage, will go a long way to enhancing Tyrella beach’s status as one of Northern Ireland’s premier beach locations and one of the areas major tourist attractions.
“I am therefore extremely pleased to welcome the news that the Council have agreed to take action to redress these failings, having set aside the necessary finance required.
“If elected to Council I will work to maintain the standard of Tyrella Beach, once the necessary works have been completed, and overall, promote the surrounding area, as I believe Slieve Croob has huge tourist potential, which would generate economic growth.”
